Aside from Manny Pacquiao’s thrilling boxing career, his popularity has brought his life story to the big screen, the music industry, countless endorsements, and politics.
In 2006, a movie based on his life was produced and directed by award-winning director Joel Lamangan. Portraying Manny is popular actor Jericho Rosales in the film titled Pacquiao: The Movie.
Pacquiao’s passion for music was also evident as he produced the song, “Para Sa “yo ang Laban Na ‘To, which became a hit all over the country as he just then won his rematch against Erik Morales. The song expresses a nationalistic theme in an effort to unite the Filipino people and partly about Pacquaio’s own struggles in the ring.
Even before he left for training for his most recent bout against Jorge Solis on April 2007, he filed for candidacy as District Representative of South Cotabato. Despite the unsolicited advices of people around him telling him not to pursue a political career, he followed what according to him was the voice of his kababayans, and unfortunately lost to Darlene Custodio, the incumbent representative.
Manny has also been endorsing different products both in print and broadcast, some of which included his entire family. These endorsements include a popular fast food chain, a brand of beer which also featured known rival Erik Morales, an ice cream, a Karaoke brand, and energy drink, and sports apparel among many others.
His business ventures include a lottery outlet for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and ownership of the Pac Man Gensan team of the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association.
Recognizing the pride he has brought for the country, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo once cited Pacquiao as one of the nation’s modern day heroes in her sixth State of the Nation Address.
